About the Program

Improv to a Job uses Playback Theatre to help people with autism learn and reinforce skills needed to pursue their professional goals. Playback Theatre is a form of improvisational storytelling based on deep listening to someone’s personal story. It’s a fun, effective way to encourage active listening and a great way for participants to integrate what’s been shared. It also gives them new ideas to explore in their own lives.

Workshop participants will share their journeys and goals in the work world with the rest of the group. Parents and other experts will also be invited to join a workshop session and share their job and career journeys. After each story is shared, participants will employ Playback Theatre to bring each story to life. This will reinforce listening and communication skills essential in a job.

At the end of the year, the group will create and perform a theater event where they will share what they have learned in the workshops. Potential employers and the autism community will be invited to attend.

The Improv to a Job workshops are offered at no cost. We encourage everyone to donate on our Donation Page. You can download our Improv to a job flyer here.
